Yes, I know “commits” are about as informative as “Lines of Code” but it does sometimes help you see where you are in comparison to other days.
Thanks to the terrible Wellington weather I stayed home all day and hacked. It was awesome. It turns out I did 32 commits today to my current project. Correction, I have two projects on the go (one at home and one at the office). This is for the one I’m doing at home. After all that I am (1) tired, (2) chuffed I was so productive and (3) happy!
The most interesting of these of course is (2). I have found that since I quit my job and am doing my own thing, I am almost infinitely more productive. Firstly, I know the ins and outs of the system, secondly I have no interruptions (irc, email, phone, in-person, clients) and finally, all my projects are just so much more interesting than previous things I’ve worked on. And yep, that includes a satellite control system! :)

That sounds like a huge number. I remember doing something like that, but that was because I couldn't get it right the first time. :)
I am wondering about the "no interruptions" thing. Why no irc, phone, phone? Who are you doing work for? OR, are you doing your own stuff which you will eventually market?
Satellite control system? That sounds interesting. Which satellites were you planning on controlling? ;-)

Hey Trav,
I don't have interruptions at the moment since I have no office phone and am keeping my IRC moments as short as possible. I also don't get too much email and have no office mates to come and interrupt either :)
Am making my own applications which I'll be selling to the general public or other businesses.
The satellite control systems I did were in the past so nothing coming up. I worked on the satellite control centre for ESA's XMM-Newton telescope and it was pretty awesome. I also did a lot of the initial work for the entry descent and landing system for the Beagle 2 probe (which of course, never made it - I blame the parachutes).
